Volunteer Long Term Care Facilities Ombudsman

Sixty percent of seniors living in long term care facility have no visitors. Volunteers go to an assigned facility on a regular basis to visit with residents. The Volunteer Ombudsman’s goal is to improve the quality of life for residents in long-term care facilities through communication and visits. We are looking for volunteers who are able to communicate with vulnerable adults, have a genuine care and concern for older adults, problem-solving skills, empathetic, dependable and exercise good judgment. Some specific duties include: Visit residents in facilities as assigned 2-4 hours per week (on your own schedule). Empower residents and their families to advocate on behalf of the resident. Provide information about residents’ rights and LTCO services. Report any suspected, alleged, or actual cases of abuse, neglect, or exploitation Maintain confidentiality. Submit reports to the Regional LTCO Participate in ongoing continuing education training ***Volunteers do NOT provide personal services, assist with eating or feeding, provide food or beverages, or any other responsibility that is managed by the facility staff.*** You can diminish the sense of isolation experienced by these seniors, especially those without family.
