Mission Statement
The Muscular Dystrophy Association is a voluntary national health agency รข a dedicated partnership between scientists and concerned citizens aimed at conquering neuromuscular diseases that affect more than a million Americans. The local MDA office serves residents of Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina.
Description
MDA maintains the most comprehensive services program of any voluntary health agency, helping individuals and their families in the community meet the problems imposed by chronic, progressive neuromuscular diseases. Funding received is specifically used for program services including: - Clinic visits to our MDA clinics located in Asheville and Spartanburg. - Assistance with the purchase and repair of wheelchairs and leg braces. - Assistance with the purchase of a communications device. - Follow-up medical care including genetic counseling, flu inoculations, as well as annual physical, occupational, and respiratory consultations. - MDA summer camp held at Camp Bethelwoods in York, SC for patients ages 6-21. - Support group sessions for patients and family members held in Greenville and Asheville. - A durable medical equipment loan closet.
