I like working one-on-one with highly motivated adult students, who are trying to improve their lives by improving their ability to speak, read and write English. I have developed a new appreciation for the intricacies of English and enjoy the challenge of making so many exceptions understandable. I like sharing the small triumphs that occur at each session. The staff is supportive and always available to help, and the atmosphere is collegial. I hope you will join us!

The Racine Literacy Council trained me to assist a non-native speaker and matched me to someone living in the area. I enjoy meeting with my learner once a week, when we study (using RLC-provided materials) and catch up with each other. She is learning to better use English, and I learn something about her culture as well. I really like the feeling of helping someone to be able to better communicate with others; it is such an important skill to have.

I have enjoyed tutoring at Racine Literacy Council for many years because it is a very rewarding experience to help someone achieve their literacy goals and feel better about integrating into our local community. Working person to person enriches my life as well as my students' lives as we share our cultural backgrounds and family histories. It makes the world a smaller and better place when you get to know someone you might not otherwise meet in your daily routine. The Racine Literacy Council provides many valuable services to the Racine community.
