AnimalKind

Formed in 1998, AnimalKind provided mass-media, public education campaigns to promote the spaying/neutering of cats and dogs for three years. In 2004, we launched THE $20 FIX, the area's first subsidy fund to enable low-income pet owners to spay/neuter their pets. To date, almost 14,000 pets have been altered through THE $20 FIX, saving the lives of millions of unwanted pets. AnimalKind is supported by individual donations, county funding and by the net profits of "ReTails Thift Shop, owned and operated by AnimalKind and located at 1608 N. Market Drive, Raleigh, NC 27609. AnimalKind has also instituted the SpayNC Helpline providing information on spay/neuter options statewide.

Mission Statement

AnimalKind's mission is to end the unnecessary euthanasia of cats and dogs in Triangle-area NC shelters, by subsidizing pet spay/neuter for the lowest-income families.

I had a wonderful experience volunteering with ReTails. They welcomed me with open arms. It's a great organization staffed by wonderful people and it was a pleasure to help them out. I'm looking forward to going back someday to help out again once I'm well enough to do so.

Not only is AnimalKind a great organization, but Beth Livingstone (the executive director) is a wonderful person to "work" for! I am a virtual volunteer, I made aprons for the ReTails Thrift Shop staff, and Beth was always very clear in her needs, very supportive of my efforts, and she is so positive about what she does. She sent me photos and news stories about how my contributions were being used - it was great to have that connection and see my aprons "in action", even though I was in California and she was in North Carolina! It's been over a year since I sent her anything, and we still keep in touch. Their mission is definitely one worth supporting as well, they've done some wonderful things for the animals and pet owners in their area.
