We're looking for a few individuals who are comfortable interacting with people and providing instruction on trapping colony cats. No experience is necessary, we'll train you. Each Sunday, we assist caretakers (the people who feed outside cats) in trapping their colony (a group of cats that share a feeding source). We bring them traps and instruct them how to trap. Traps need to go out a week prior to the trapping; it doesn't matter the day or the time, just that it's at least 7 days prior to the trapping. This opportunity is very flexible - you'll choose what day(s)/ times work for you. We have a van available for transporting the traps. Must be able to lift and carry an 11 LB trap. You can sign up for as little as a day a month or a day a week. Training will take a few weeks so it's best you're available at least twice a month the first two months. The only requirement is being comfortable communicating with all different walks of life and, of course, a love of cats! This is an opportunity to make significant impact on bettering the lives of thousands of community cats. Help us help cats.

Trapping and spaying one cat saves thousands of births of homeless kittens. What we do is PROACTIVE and works towards the SOLVE the problem of overpopulation of free-roaming cats. Help us be part of the SOLUTION. We need Sunday cat wranglers! You'll help collect cats from their caretakers, ID them, provide food/water/and comfort padding. Sometimes you'll need to help us transfer cats into traps from carriers. Shifts usually run 9:45am until noonish. You may leave sooner or later depending on the number of cats but we're usually done before noon. Occasional afternoons are open depending on the cats' feeding schedule. Occasional picking up cats from various locations throughout St. Joe county (we have a van for you to use) and bringing them to our location in River Park. We schedule per month. Times vary, you can sign up for as few or as many Sundays as you'd like. No experience necessary, we'll teach you!

Every week, we help spay/neuter anywhere from 20 - 40 cats. Most of the cat caretakers pick up their cats but sometimes we have to take them back to their colonies. We have a Meow Mobile (small van) available, we just need people to help transport. The shift is relatively flexible. You can go anytime on Tuesdays after 12pm. We schedule per month and you can sign up for as few or as many shifts as you like. This is a great opportunity for buddies. Don't have a buddy? We'll partner you with someone. You need to be able to lift and carry 15-20lbs (some kitties are fatties!). There's a tiny bit of paperwork - and a little bit of clean up. Usually takes about 2 hours, dependent on the number of cats. You must be 18 years old and have a valid driver's license.

We are in need of a take-charge person to initiate and manage our three annual events: February - Purses for Purrs Designer Purse Auction April - Trivia Night October - Alleys for Alley Cats Bowling & Polish Dinner We need a manager to get the ball rolling on our events and keep us on-task. We have fantastic volunteers, we just need someone to provide direction. Since 2011, we have neutered over 10,000 community cats. This prevents the births of hundreds of thousands of homeless kittens. The work we do is imperative to lowering the free-roaming cat population as well as significantly improving their lives. We are an all volunteer nonprofit. We rely on donations, events, and grants to help community cats and we need YOUR help! If you can write grants, great! If you can't, there are other things you can do as well as manage events: Approach local businesses for give-backs Contact community foundations Arrange volunteer days (many businesses donate to non-profits when their employees volunteer) Network You need to be a minimum of 21 years old and live in the greater South Bend, Indiana area. You need to have initiative and be diplomatic and encourage our volunteers to be the best they can be. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with these skills to make a significant impact on fundraising for Meow Mission.

Mission Statement
Our mission is to: 1) humanely and proactively reduce the free-roaming cat population of northwestern Indiana/southwestern Michigan 2) eliminate the barriers free-roaming cat caretakers encounter with spaying and neutering colony cats 3) educate the community on the merits and methods of trap/neuter/return practices
Description
Michiana faces a problem most communities face - an overpopulation of free-roaming cats. A significant amount of these cats are tame, discarded pets. Feeling compassion, many families (referred to as "colony caretakers") feed these community cats. Unfortunately, a great deal of the cats are found in low-income neighborhoods. Without our intervention, these cats will continue to breed, overwhelming our city’s residents and animal control in a never-ending cycle. With your help, we are able to reach out to these kind-hearted citizens and offer them the financial support needed to spay and neuter our community’s discarded and free-roaming cats.
