Welcome to the Borough of State College, home to the Pennsylvania State University, which is the source of our unusual and, occasionally, confusing name. Town and campus have grown side by side since Penn State was founded as the Farmers' High School in 1855. Many of the Borough's volunteer opportunities are geared at improving environmental sustainability, increasing community engagement and ensuring a high quality of life in the Borough's residential neighborhoods,
