GENERAL DESCRIPTION The primary responsibility of the Construction Laborer is to assist trade personnel to perform residential construction and renovation projects, including general construction, insulation, plumbing, basic wiring, HVAC, siding, and roofing. This is a multi-faceted position requiring the individual to perform tasks and assignments across a broad range of rehabilitation-related construction projects, either independently, with an assigned work crew and/or in conjunction with volunteers assigned to the project. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Job Site Performs a variety of rough carpentry tasks, including, but not limited to, the following: wall framing, floor framing, roof framing, door and window framing, stair framing, and roof and wall sheathing. Performs a variety of tasks that require working at heights equivalent to two or three stories, including but not limited to, roof tear off, installation of new roof sheathing, membrane and asphalt roofing materials, and window installation. Performs all work activity in conformance to the "Work Site Safety Plan" as provided by the Construction Supervisor. Performs a variety of finish carpentry tasks, including, but not limited to, the following: interior and exterior trim work, drywall hanging and finishing, siding work, hanging of doors, and installation of windows. Performs a variety of plumbing tasks, including, but not limited to, the following: roughing in supply lines and drain lines, and installing tubs, shower units, sinks, water closets, and vent systems. Performs a variety of electrical tasks, including, but not limited to, the following: rough in work of receptacles and switch circuits, lighting circuits, troubleshooting of electrical problems, relocation of existing lines, and circuit breaker installation. Performs a variety of masonry tasks, including, but not limited to, the following: block and brick work, foundations, form work, and slab construction. Ensures the health and safety of building occupants. Provides appropriate project documentation and completes paperwork as required. Ensures quality of his/her completed assignments. Determines the appropriate actions to take in regards to assigned tasks. Maintains a secure worksite with regard to all equipment and materials. Performs related work as required. General Requirements High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED). Minimum of two years of experience or technical training in construction, building trades, or other related discipline sufficient to demonstrate a thorough understanding of construction theory and techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, physical plant maintenance, or any combination of education and experience, sufficient to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possess and maintain a valid Virginia Driver License, with the daily availability of a reliable transportation carrying adequate insurance. Clear speaking voice and the mental and physical ability to perform essential job functions without any health restrictions, including the ability to sit, stand, be capable of climbing extension ladders, working at heights, lifting a maximum of sixty pounds unassisted and one hundred pounds assisted, working in restricted areas such as crawlspaces and attics for long periods of time, and wearing safety equipment as required by OSHA. Must pass drug screening and a criminal background check. Skills & Abilities Skilled in various phases of housing construction/rehabilitation including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, rough and finish carpentry, HVAC, and roofing. Skilled in utilizing hand and power equipment to effectively perform work in all aspects of construction. Strong communications skills both verbal and written. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Effective mathematical and analytical ability. Ability to perform construction tasks such as climbing, framing, siding, carpentry, roofing, and repairs. Ability to spend time outdoors exposed to all weather conditions. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain professional relationships. Flexibility, patience, tolerance, and willingness to learn new construction and non-construction related skills. Ability to work Monday through Friday, with some Saturdays. Accurately records client data in the appropriate client management system, effectively manages the confidential financial information of clients, and maintains case files for all clients in accordance with agency and HUD standards. Logs and returns voice mail messages to provide timely follow up with clients and potential applicants. Maintain accurate and current information about resources in the community and make referrals to appropriate agencies for services which the program cannot meet. Maintains knowledge of housing and financial counseling industry standards, and practices Demonstrates sensitivity to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics. Demonstrates strong interpersonal, decision-making, problem-solving, oral, and written skills. Utilizes a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Must have the ability to work occasional evenings and weekends. Must possess or attain certification as HUD Certified Housing Counselor within one (1) year of appointment Must be located in the Commonwealth of Virginia Must pass a criminal background check Must reside within the Commonwealth of Virginia Must NOT be an active real estate broker/agent, insurance broker/agent, or mortgage broker/agent ***Position will conduct virtual counseling sessions***

The primary purpose of the VHCDC Board of Advisors is to advise and counsel the organization to gain innovative housing market insights and explore new opportunities in housing counseling, education, and development through thought-provoking and high-quality discussions. Members of the Advisory Board are selected from the communities we serve and will represent a cross-section of those we serve, including low-to-moderate income households, local government, and representatives from housing, mortgage, and real estate industries. VHCDC looks to individuals with experience, expertise, and a passion for driving increased wealth, home ownership, and micro-business growth. We require a minimum investment of about 6 hours each quarter, as we may call upon the Board individually or as a group for unbridled thought, opinions, and insight to regional housing markets and the opportunities and challenges facing our clientele.

Virginia Housing and Community Development Corporation (VHCDC) is looking for carpenters experienced in all aspects of residential construction including framing, drywall, flooring, tile, windows, doors and trim work. Basic plumbing and electrical skills are preferred, but not required. This position is responsible for performing a variety of rehabilitation construction tasks, including interior and exterior demolition, site preparation, framing, ceiling and floor joists, drywall installation, doors and windows installation, sub-flooring, roofing, trim, and installation of bath/kitchen cabinets, appliances, and fixtures. The ideal candidate is prompt, reliable, presentable, and has their own transportation and tools, and can work independently or lead a crew. A drug test and background check may be performed before an offer of voluntary employment is made. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The Job Site Perform a variety of construction tasks concerned with the rehabilitation of VHCDC residential construction/rehabilitation projects Ensure projects are built in compliance with current building and safety codes and other regulations. Study project specifications to determine appropriate construction methods. Maintain a positive, professional, and safe work environment. Provide timely and clear communication with management, contractors, other volunteers, vendors, and trade workers/laborers. Perform other related duties as requested by management/project supervisor. Qualifications 3+ years of residential construction experience desired. Computer literacy is a must; knowledge of Word and Excel. Must be legally able to work in the United States. Experience in a non-profit organization preferred. Must have a valid Virginia driver license. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Must pass drug screening and a criminal background check.
