Alliance for Lupus Research

The Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) is a national voluntary health organization based in New York City that was founded in 1999 and is chaired by Robert Wood Johnson IV, a member of the founding family of Johnson & Johnson.

The ALR funds and fosters some of the world's most important lupus research-greatly broadening the basic scientific understanding of this autoimmune disease.

Since its founding, ALR has given more money to lupus research than any non-governmental agency in the world. To date the ALR has committed more than $70 million to lupus research.

Because the ALR's Board of Directors funds all fundraising and administrative costs, 100% of all donations (including every dollar raised through ALR's signature Walk with Us to Cure Lupus fundraising program) go directly to support lupus research programs.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Alliance for Lupus Research (ALR) is to find better treatments and ultimately prevent and cure systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, or lupus), a debilitating autoimmune disease, through medical research.
