The Salvation Army assists families and individuals in times of need. The Adult Rehabilitation Center offers a drug and alcohol recovery program that is supported solely by Salvation Army thrift stores. William Booth Center provides both emergency shelter and transitional housing and respite acute care for homeless men working to change their lives. Catherine Booth House and Hickman House offer domestic violence advocacy as well as short-term shelter and transitional housing for battered women and their children. Individuals and families receive emergency medical and dental care, meals, legal counseling, therapeutic child care, and help finding work and permanent housing. Salvation Army Social Services help families and individuals with rent assistance, emergency food, utility assistance, clothing and other basic needs, as well housing for homeless women and families. Salvation Army Community Centers offer family and youth programs, including a safe place for teens after school. At Camp Arnold, disadvantaged children are treated to a week of canoeing, sports, art and crafts, drama and music. Worldwide The Salvation Army responds to disasters and offers a comprehensive array of programs for refuguee assistance, orphanages, schools, tutoring programs, and micro-lending programs for cottage industries in more than 100 countries.
