Would you recommend Atlanta Long Term Care Ombudsman Program?

I actually volunteer in another area of GA w/the Ombudsman program as this program's throughout the state.I'm certified in another area but am transferring to Atlanta & contacted the above office asking if they needed volunteers & Rosane told me they're always in need of qualified individuals.I'm CERTIFIED already and I have tried to get info from Atlanta office in particular, Vickie Seitman, listed above as the contact. When you use the Official Ombudsman site/call the office Ms. Seitman is the contact person to which you are referred.I sent Ms. Seitman 3 emails over a months time & NEVER received a reply.I then contacted the State Ombudsman office to which my question was "am I required to be re-certified in Atlanta area?" - not only was my question NOT answered - I was told since I didn't provide enough info to verify my certification Gabriel couldn't help me. This is not some secret society OR maybe the Atlanta Ombudsman think they are. Answer questions instead of being difficult!

I find the people running this program R very territorial & doing nothing more then discouraging volunteers in order 2 keep their jobs until retirement age.If U R just interested in visiting the elderly 2 give them company this is a great place 2 volunteer however if you R doing this 2 make a change in the way our elders R treated this is NOT the place 4 you & the powers that be will quickly banish you by taking away your assigned homes that paid staff "so badly need help visiting as we have so many homes and only a few of us".One paid staff member might have 100 PCH 2 visit in a quarter plus there NH visits they MUSt do once a month.MANY DO NOT but claim they do!You will hear the words "Volunteer turnover" mentioned so often but not for the reasons you think. The Vol Coordinator is flighty at best, doesn't know the manual & people just generally tire of her antics & leave the program. It has nothing 2 do w/certification being hard it has 2 do w/ them blocking your certification!

I would not recommend this program. This program is worthless. It claims to help the residents and their family yet every time I tried to help, the Ombudsman I served under would try to put words in the residents mouth & confuse them.We sat in on a care plan meeting at the request of the resident's family. It lasted about 15 minutes and the Ombudsman sided with the home throughout the meeting(I wasn't allowed to speak during the meeting as I was just an observer). Also you might as well just do everything yourself. When you call in and ask for help they suggest that you work it out yourself first.I have found that most people do not ask for help from the Ombudsman until they have tried to work with the home. The Ombudsman will tell you they are over worked and underpaid. Well you took the job to help the elderly SO HELP THEM! And stop acting like you are buddies with the staff (something they drill into our heads - don't be too friendly) I have actually seen my Ombudsman hug staff members!
