The Oregon Sports Authority's goals are to promote economic development; increase the usage of existing spectator facilities and sports venues; promote civic pride; enhance Portland's image as a "big league" sports destination; and diversify the variety of events available to sports enthusiasts throughout the state. Accordingly, the Oregon Sports Authority coordinates efforts to bid for, promote and manage quality sports events that make sense for the state. The Oregon Sports Authority showcases areas of Oregon as ideal sites for world-class sporting events. By hosting first-rate events such as the 1999 FIFA Women's World Cup, 2000 NCAA Division I Women's Basketball West Regional and the 2005 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, sports can become a key component of our economic growth strategy and make the region an even more exciting and enjoyable place to live.
