Visit-A-Bit Telephone Volunteer

The Visit-A-Bit Program (VAB) is designed to address senior adult loneliness in the Greater St. Louis area. The program pairs volunteers and seniors together based on location, hobbies, and interests. The VAB Program is seeking Telephone Volunteers to provide a form of companionship via the telephone for a Senior in the program, that may be experiencing loneliness. Provide an outlet for conversation, bonding, rapport building, and active listening skills. Responsibilities & Duties: * Call your assigned Senior once a week for 1-2 hours. * Become a companion to your Senior. * Must be respectful, gentle, kind, and non-judgmental. * Complete and submit a simple online contact report after your calls. Qualifications: * Must be at least 18 years of age. * Ability to speak slowly & clearly if needed for communications with your Senior. * Must have either a landline or cell phone to make weekly phone calls. * No experience required * Should exhibit patience and provide a peaceful and meaningful experience for your Senior. * Volunteers should genuinely want to be involved and want to be helpful. * Due to the nature of working with human emotions, we ask for a commitment of at least one year as a volunteer. * No physical abilities or qualifications are required to be a volunteer. Environment: * Volunteering will take place over the phone.

Patient Care volunteer

Visiting Nurse Association Hospice Care depends on many caring volunteers to provide support to our terminally ill patients and their families. Patient Care volunteers provide companionship to patients by visiting and extending friendship on a regular basis. The volunteer by providing friendship can mainstain or reestablish the patient's sense of self worth. Our patients are in nursing homes or their own home. Assignments are geographically made and volunteers can be flexible and spend one hour a week or a couple of hours a month based on the amount of time they can offer.

Description

VNA is a non profit organization and a member of the United Way with a certified volunteer program. Visiting Nurse Association seeks to improve the quality of life for those patients with a life limiting illness for whom the goal is comfort rather than cure thru their hospice division. VNA also provides palliative care -Advanced Illness Management to patients with difficulty leaving home due to serious chronic illness. VNA also provides Care at home through private duty services-VNA CAre at Home.

There are now 4 of us who get together. Every new hospice pt. receives a handmade (with love) crocheted or knitted lap robe. We also take on special sewing projects such as walker bags, foley bag covers, or any special need a client may need to make them more comfortable. In addition we craft a special gift for our clients &/or their caregiver for major holidays . Our group has an age range from 80's to 50's. We are a very fun, welcoming, affable group. We laugh a lot & just genuinely enjoy each other. Everyone is equal. What bands us together is our desire to help others in addition to our respect & love of each other. We would like to welcome you into our group for a meeting (or as we like to say "a get together") so that we may all help others in need. We invite your creativity for any kind of craft. Come join us! We're nice people!!!
