Riis Settlement is accepting clothes donations! Our goal is to recycle unwanted clothing by sharing it to people in need. We accept men, women, and kids clothes. We accept only clean, gently used clothes. Items that have stains and worn out items are not accepted. Please drop your donations in the Immigrant Services office at 10-25 41st Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101 (blue door on the side from the main Riis Settlement center, office is located in the same building as the supermarket) If you have any questions, email volunteerriis@gmail.com

Riis Settlement is seeking volunteers to work with our Immigrant Services program to support newly-arrived migrants and asylum-seekers. We are organizing monthly legal clinics on May 24, June 21, and July 19 to assist new arrivals with applications for Temporary Protected Status, Work permits, and Asylum. Volunteers can assist with preparing immigration forms, providing translation/interpretation, and more. Training will be provided and no prior experience is necessary. Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement is seeking a bilingual volunteer to teach a beginner - level Spanish class. We are looking for a volunteer who can dedicate a few hours a week for at least ten weeks. The ideal volunteer will have some teaching experience. The individual should be well organized, have patience and the ability to commit for the length of the project. This opportunity can be in-person or remote. Our Immigrant Services program is looking for volunteers who are bilingual in Bengali, Arabic, Haitian-Creole, and Chinese to support our community outreach work in Queens! Bilingual volunteers play a vital role in connecting our organization with the diverse immigrant community we serve. This role involves actively engaging with community members, promoting awareness of our services, and facilitating connections to resources and support. Volunteers work closely with our team to contribute to outreach efforts. This may include: Attending community events and gatherings to represent our organization. Providing information about our free programs and services for immigrants, such as English classes and legal services. Conducting educational workshops on relevant topics, such as immigrant rights. Translating our promotional materials and information into additional languages. Schedule: 2-4 days per month with flexible schedule Community events and outreach activities may take place during weekday mornings, afternoons, and evenings or Saturdays Benefits: Opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the community.
