Mission Statement

Housing Works is a healing community of people living with and affected by HIV & AIDS. Our goal is to end the dual crises of homelessness and AIDS through relentless advocacy, the provision of lifesaving services, and entrepreneurial businesses that sustain our efforts.

Description

Housing Works is powered by a vibrant community of volunteers who lend their time, dedication, and passion to many different roles within our social enterprise department, Bookstore Cafe, and Thrift Shops.

Individuals and groups of volunteers assist our organization greatly, by coming together to better the communities that they live and work in. Housing Works is pleased to partner with corporations, universities, and community based groups, in the creation and implementation of volunteer projects that benefit homeless men and women living with HIV & AIDS. We are one of New York City’s largest and most successful support services for those in these under served communities, and becoming a part of the Housing Work’s family is an exciting way for companies to give back.

Each project challenges volunteers to develop new skills and engage new people, contributing to a greater sense of camaraderie. We welcome the opportunity to work with corporations to find volunteer opportunities that meet their needs and priorities. Volunteering with Housing Works is a great way for companies to engage employees while demonstrating their commitment to the fight against homelessness and AIDS, and the improvement of the lives of all at-risk New Yorkers.

I'm glad I was able to help them for their cause. It was only for a few hours but it was worth it. Glad I got to be apart of Housing Works. Thank you. See in Chicago in 2 years!

The idea of spreading art and literature for the good of helping a community of those affected by HIV/AIDS and homelessness kills two birds with one stone. To be able to surround yourself with what you love and volunteer for the bettering of society does not happen often, and an opportunity like this one should be taken without hesitation. As a volunteer, you can satisfy an intellectual curiosity for the arts as well as develop a passion for the community and helping the less fortunate -- something that the worlds needs a little more of.
