Mission Statement

WNY United Against Drug & Alcohol Abuse, Inc. is a community based prevention agency designed to increase awareness, educate and mobilize a broad cross-section of individuals and groups to participate actively in proven strategies to prevent substance abuse. It was started in 1986 as a community problem solving initiative of the United Way under the leadership of Bob and Mindy Rich. WNY United is a grassroots initiative functioning as a catalyst which identifies, enhances and capitalizes on community strengths. Consistent with the latest research, WNY United recruits, develops and supports partnerships with schools, communities and businesses that work on creative and comprehensive solutions to problems caused by alcohol and other drug abuse. WNY United provides long term technical assistance, information, materials, curriculum packages and rallying through public education campaigns and school and community mobilization activities.

Description

WNY United provides many services, including in-classroom support through our Prevention Specialists, reaching more than 10,000 students each school year. During the summer months, our Summer LIT (Leaders in Training) offers a five-week highly structured program for 6th grade students.

We have served the WNY community for more than 20 years and continue to strive toward excellence and research-driven results in every classroom.

We host two major fundraisers throughout the year and work in collaboration with other agencies to produce additional fundraisers and drug-free family events.

We are proud to report that 100% of dollars raised at our functions stays in Western New York!
