Mission Statement
To create a supportive environment in which all animals are valued and appreciated for their role in human and social wellbeing while addressing overpopulation and mistreatment of animals and reducing reliance on institutional sheltering through alternative resources.
Description
MCHS handled approximately 9,100 animals in 2010 and serviced the animal-related needs of approximately 100,000 people. Many of the services provided are mandated by grant contract and others are mandated by care and concern for the animals in our care. Our funds to operate the Montgomery County Animal Shelter are provided under a grant from the Montgomery County government and from private donations.
Programs and services include pet adoption and counseling, foster care, rescue partners, lost and found, education for community organizations and children, reduced-cost spay/neuter, and online behavior advice.
MCHS is an independent 501-c-3 nonprofit organization based in Rockville, MD, and is not a chapter or branch of any other nonprofit.
