Volunteering with Incarcerated Voices was such a fulfilling and enjoyable experience. The whole thing was great from start to finish. The application process is a lot of work, but it's ultimately worth it. I got to hear from a variety of people, and learned a lot about the US Justice System. On a practical level, the user interface is great, and very easy to use. And Scott is always responsive if there are any issues. I would highly recommend this to anyone with a few hours free during their week.

I have been working with Scott McWilliams on setting up a weekly radio broadcast and have found him to be most helpful and accommodating. Even though we are a full continent away from each other my questions and comments get answered within minutes. I can't wait to finish my training and get on the air!

Hardworking and dedicated staff. They are responsive, reasonable, and provide clear direction. I get the definite sense that they will be successful, and benefit the lives of prisoners and their families.

Had a nice chat with the founder of this orgranization. This is a very interesting project highlighting stories and viewpoints from the inmate's point of view. I'm hoping this will be a long-term volunteer relationship!

The supervisor is incredibly nice, and understanding. I have never felt awkward or nervous about asking for clarification. They will truly work with your schedule if you give them a heads up. Lastly they frequently tell me how much they appreciate my work.

This experience was wonderful.  On the personal side, having a back injury, "regular" community service was proving to be a difficult endeavor, along with having a very full schedule, I was really needing something that allowed me to work at a time that didn't affect my work schedule and also didn't require a lot of physical labor.  This opportunity was God sent.  An unexpected positive was the insight into the incarcerated people's thoughts and lives. It's sobering. Life is hard for all of us, but reading their stories I have to be thankful for how wonderful mine is.

I thought that performing the transcriptions enabled me to gain unique insight into the thoughts and feelings of incarcerated individuals. I can definitely say that these letters have altered my perception of prisoners and the issues that are plaguing the justice system. I've had limited exposure to prisoners and I was really struck by their opinions and thoughts. One quote in particular moved me - it was something along the lines of "I just want to make a difference and help people because I know I will die here in prison." It seemed to me that the realization of dying in prison would only inhibit one's desire to help, but I was clearly wrong. I absolutely will recommend your initiative to those around me . I only hope that I was able to provide meaningful help somewhat equal to what I gained from this experience.

A great opportunity for a volunteer who is looking to help give a voice to individuals who are making positive changes in their lives.
