Mission Statement

The Homeless Pets Foundation saves the lives of cats and dogs that have run out of time at public shelters by utilizing social networks, hosting adoption events and placing pets in foster families until forever homes can be found.

The organization focuses on three areas: finding adoptive homes for dogs and cats through Town and Country Veterinary Clinic, partnering with schools and local businesses to promote pet adoptions through our Homeless Pet Clubs and transporting pets from the Southeast to other areas of the country where there is greater demand.

Since our founding in 1998, we’ve placed more than 10,000 pets into loving homes.

We fulfill our mission and vision by:

  • Providing rescue, adoption and population control services to ensure all cats and dogs live in a stable and loving home for their natural lifespan.
  • Developing a solid and replicable program for saving homeless pets lives and sharing that knowledge with other animal protection and human service organizations both locally and nationally.
  • Creating educational programs to introduce the higher ideals of compassion toward pets and people, responsible pet guardianship, and controlling pet overpopulation.
We Believe:
  • A pet is a lifetime commitment; and deserves a stable and loving home.
  • As living dependent beings, pets should get our utmost consideration when we make decisions that impact their existence or quality of life.
  • Pets help strengthen families and make us better people - thus forging better communities and making the world a better place to live.

Description

The Homeless Pets Foundation is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 1998 by Dr. Michael Good, an Atlanta veterinarian who saw a need to create an organization that could assist animal shelters and pet owners in need. We come from a wide variety of backgrounds; students and teachers, clubs and civic leaders, young and old. And, we have one thing in common, a commitment to saving the lives of homeless pets. We are the Homeless Pets Foundation, a 100% volunteer run organization dedicated to promoting responsible pet ownership while placing adoptable dogs and cats in forever homes.

Volunteering with Homeless Pets Foundation for the last year and a half has been such a rewarding experience. To see an animal through its journey of being rescued, rehabilitated, and then adopted into a loving forever home is an experience that will never be forgotten. Not only do I get to cuddle with some of the cutest animals ever, I have made some really great friends that all share my passion and love for animals.

I wanted hands-on dog time with a volunteer organization. I got that and more with Homeless Pets Foundation. I've been helping for 3 years now. At adoption sites we interact with both pets and people as we play with the dogs who're available for adoption and speak with the public about adopting. Since HPF is all-volunteer, there are many areas to volunteer and you can contribute as much or as little time as you're able and you know you've still helped out. We really need more volunteers to help us do what we do. Come give it a try!
