Make the world your home. YFU advances intercultural understanding, mutual respect and social responsibility through educational exchanges for youth, families and communities.

Description

A non-profit international educational organization with partners in more than 60 different countries, Youth For Understanding is one of the world’s oldest, largest and most respected intercultural exchange program. More than 250,000 students and their host families have benefited from the support and expertise of YFU. The YFU global network is united by the belief that full cultural immersion is the most effective means to gain the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly multicultural, interconnected and competitive global society. YFU is different from other intercultural exchange organizations because of our thorough preparation and program support that’s backed by a global team of volunteers, Our volunteers run orientations, conduct interviews, support students and serve as a YFU ambassador within their own communities. When you join YFU, you become a part of a 1500 volunteers nationwide who help students grow and discover their inner selves.

We have hosted three students so far and counting. This is a wonderful opportunity to give a teen a chance to learn more about America. It also give us a chance to learn more about their culture. The best part is we have sons and daughters around the world!!! We absolutely love hosting and each year our family grows!! I recommend this so much!!

Is promoting World Peace important to you? Do you long to improve American image overseas? Volunteers with YFU make a difference! Guide youth from many countries and get to make a positive impact on the lives of American families and International Exchange students. Volunteers may focus on inspiring American teens in an exchange year overseas, or to be a resource for American families hosting a student. YFU is a founding member of the CSIET STANDARDS, works under US State Department. Volunteers are a friendly group of people who are lucky enough to make WORLD PEACE happen every day. Volunteers can help in many ways. Best of all: Families are the backbone of YFU; they select a great teen to be their child for a school year. I have been a host mother with YFU 7 times, hosting youth from Uruguay, Finland, Estonia, Japan, Thailand, and Germany. The practical and emotional support has been what we needed every time. My daughter went to Finland! Every teen we host loves our USA.
