I am proud to be a volunteer with the Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross working out of my local Vernon County office in Nevada, Mo. I have found that you won't find a more caring and compassionate group of individuals who are willing to drop everything on a moments notice and help those who have been involved in a disaster. We pride ourselves on being "one Red Cross" so we are a network that is ready to help one another at any time. It might be hugging someone while their house burns or welcoming evacuees into a shelter because they have been forced to leave their homes due to a hurricane or maybe helping feed those who have lost electricity because of a tornado. I believe that when the American Red Cross comes into a town following a disaster that our presence there helps instill hope and a sense that help has arrived. Every time I put on my Red Cross vest I remember that I am representing this wonderful organization and I wear it with pride. Won't you join me?

I have volunteered with Military Services since 2005, worked (paid) as a recruiter of volunteers for a bit, and now am again a volunteer (wearing many hats). The Red Cross provides for the immediate emergency needs of those impacted by disasters. We also do many other things to help our communities prepare for emergencies (training and education). That is a mission folks from all parts of our community can readily support. It is an organization run by and staffed by volunteers. Volunteers are empowered to make decisions and to make things happen. My only caution is that you may need to be assertive to find a place in this organization. Paid staffers are few and far between and extremely busy and most of the volunteers are busy doing. (Folks may not necessarily recognize that you ARE new...so dont be shy!) Volunteers are needed day in and day out. Since volunteers help run every aspect of the Red Cross there is almost certainly a place for your interests and talents. Please do join us!

I have been a Registered Nurse for 23 years and volunteering for the Red Cross has been the most rewarding job I have done in a very long time. It feels so good to be fortunate enough to help others in their time of need, just as I was when my home burned 15 years ago. It's nice to give back

I'm very proud to be a part of this wonderful organization. It helps everyone which I enjoy doing. My husband describes us as professional volunteers. But this is the one that I enjoy the most.
