Friends of the National Zoo

Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) is dedicated to supporting the mission of the Smithsonian's National Zoological Park to celebrate, study, and protect the diversity of animals and their habitats. Since 1958, FONZ has provided the Zoo with education programs, volunteers, and grants for Zoo scientists and staff, as well as special events, guest services, and fundraising for Zoo projects. FONZ runs one of the nation's largest wildlife education programs for children, and its volunteers give more than 80,000 hours of service to the Zoo each year. As a membership-based organization, FONZ is extremely successful, boasting about 95,000 members.
