Mission Statement
The purpose of Classical 98.1 is to support the broadcasting of classical music in Western Washington and thereby further the education and involvement of the general public audience in Classical Music and advance the appreciation and performance of opera, symphonic music and chamber music using a wide spectrum of technologies to deliver the highest quality experience.
Description
KING FM was founded by Dorothy Stimson Bullitt in 1948. In 1994, her daughters, Harriet Bullitt and Patsy Bullitt Collins, gave the commercial radio station to three Seattle non-profits to serve as a revenue stream for those arts (Seattle Opera, Seattle Symphony, and Artsfund). On May 2, 2011, KING FM itself switched to a listener-supported, non-profit radio station (Classical 98.1).
As a non-profit organization, Classical KING FM 89.1 is KING FM is committed to making great classical music more accessible, partnering with the arts community, and increasing our support for arts education.
