Mission Statement

The mission of the Mississippi Commission for Volunteer Service is to engage and support Mississippians of all ages and backgrounds in service to their communities.

Description

MCVS coordinates Learn & Serve America programs with the Mississippi Department of Education and coordinates VISTA and National Senior Service Corps programs with the Mississippi Office of the Corporation for National Service. MCVS is responsible for selected Learn & Serve America programs and for most AmeriCorps programs in the state.

AmeriCorps is a network of community-based programs that involve Americans of all ages in results-driven service. All programs have a common mission: getting things done to help communities by bringing together people form all backgrounds to solve problems at the local level. National service offers an important challenge and opportunity to serve. Like the 1930's CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps), the GI Bill and Peace Corps, today's national service opportunities are an investment in our nation's future.
