Mission Statement

Tender Mercies transforms the lives of homeless adults with mental illness by providing security, dignity, and community in a place they call home. Security means a housing environment where residents' personal safety is a priority. Dignity means a housing environment that allows residents to develop personal, social, and economic strengths. And community is a regular, predictable housing environment that offers a sense of family, while affirming the individual.

Description

Tender Mercies is a vibrant community that achieves our mission by maintaining 134 units of permanent supportive housing and 16 units of transitional housing in 6 buildings in Over-the-Rhine. Our model of housing is based on the belief that by addressing the root causes of homelessness, we can help an individual break the cycle of homelessness once he or she leaves Tender Mercies. We accomplish our goals by providing an array of supportive services coupled with housing.

Tender Mercies is the kind of place that you know the instant you walk in the door, every moment is appreciated. Whether you are working on a cleaning project, or just spending time with a resident, every smile and hand shake has that little bit extra that tells you your time that moment has touched a heart. The residents have been passed by all too often, sometimes at the lowest moment of their lives. It is apparent in that instant where it is realized you have made a point to make their life better, or recognize their struggle, or just take a way the sadness for a moment with a joke, you have touched a life in a way that is all too rare. The organization itself is welcoming and accommodating, maybe you have an hour one time, maybe you have a team of volunteers who can help on a regular basis, every second is appreciated. Tender Mercies shelter for the homeless with emotional or mental disabilities is truly one of most shining jewels in the Cincinnati's Queen City Crown.!
