Mother's Refuge

Volunteers are essential to the success of our program. The young women we serve need positive role models who will encourage them to be good parents and productive citizens. Perhaps through your example, they someday will choose to give themselves to help others.

You can help:

(Volunteers must be 21 years of age, must pass all state and agency requirements)

  • Surprise Sunday Supper- Bring in the ingredients of your favorite meal and teach the residents how to cook it.
  • Day to Day Volunteers-Volunteer s are required to volunteer 6 hours per month, visiting, playing games or taking the girls to apportionments. The position also required working with newborns and infents. Sometimes the girls at Mother's Refuge, might need someone to watch their child while they shower, clean their room or cook dinner. Volunteer shifts are set up in 3 hour increments. Monday -Friday 6pm-9pm Saturday 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm Sunday 1pm-4pm and 6pm-9pm
  • Special Event- Volunteer to go to the city market, zoo, shopping, and other outing with the girls for a minimum, of 6 hours per month. Volunteer shifts are set up in 3 hour increments. Monday -Friday 6pm-9pm Saturday 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm Sunday 1pm-4pm and 6pm-9pm
  • Mentors- After volunteering 6 months, you can be paired with a resident. Mentors visit and support the resident by taking them to appointments, having them over for dinner, taking them out to the movies, shopping, ect. Required 6 hours per month.
  • Tutoring- All our residents are in school; high school, college, working on GED or technical school. Sometimes they need help with homework or projects. Required 6 hours per month.
