Mission Statement

helping homeless youth succeed through education

Description

The purpose of Youth LIFT is to help homeless teens succeed academically, graduate from high school, and work toward a rewarding career. We do this by providing tutoring and mentoring opportunities to homeless teens. We also provide educational trips to help homeless youth learn about career opportunities that may interest them and the educational requirements of those careers. Youth LIFT attempts to inspire homeless youth to stay in school and graduate from high school to give them the resources to move to a life off the streets.

Homeless children are likely to continue a pattern of homelessness. Without education, homeless youth are bound for low-paying jobs, poverty, and further instability in their adult lives. Access to a proper education is an important step to ensuring the future success of these youth.

Homeless youth face many barriers to academic achievement including transportation issues, health problems, inadequate study conditions, constant mobility, and developmental delays. Youth LIFT works to help homeless teens overcome these barriers to succeed in school.

Youth LIFT offers an excellent opportunity to make a positive difference in a child’s life. These kids really look forward to tutoring visits. Homework may not be their favorite activity, but the special attention they receive from a caring adult and the break from their usual routine and opportunity to gain new perspectives are a highlight of their week. The organization also offers coaching for the volunteers to help overcome any challenges we face. I have enjoyed this volunteer experience & highly recommend.

I found YouthLIFT through VolunteerMatch and have found it to be exactly as it's billed; it's an opportunity to work 1-on-1 with kids in tough situations who need help. No more, no less. If you want to make a difference, start here.

I have mentored and tutored a nine year old girl since Nov and I look forward to our weekly visits. I think I have benefited. Just as much as this wonderful child has and I think or hope I have made a difference in her life. I encourage people to volunteer...we'll worth the time.

Youth Lift totally changed my life! I got matched with a 7 year old kid who was adorable and hilarious. I tutored him once a week for about a year and a half. I would reccomend Youth Lift to anyone who is serious about making a difference in the life of a child who is suffering from homelessness. This experience totally opened my eyes to just how many issues families face when they are homeless.

YouthLift is the best thing I have ever been involved in by far! I was matched with a child who needed someone as a mentor and tutor. I have not only made this little girls life better by helping her in school but she has changed my life more than I ever could have imagined. Seeing her face light up every time I pick her up from school and how much she has grown into a smart young lady is the best feeling in the world. Why doesn't everyone give a few hours a week to change a childs life? YouthLift is #1 in my book!!!
