Description

Seattle Parks and Recreation is a City of Seattle agency whose mission is to work with all citizens to be good stewards of our environment, and to provide safe and welcoming opportunities to play, learn, contemplate and build community. Parks manages 6,200 acres of park land, 11 percent of the city's total land area, and facilities that include two boating and sailing centers, 26 community centers, seven historic buildings, two museums, four environmental learning centers, six performing and visual arts facilities, two plant nurseries, 10 swimming pools, the Seattle Aquarium, 90 freestanding restroom buildings, 27 wading pools, 36 picnic shelters, and four maintenance facilities. Outdoor spaces include 400 parks and open areas and that offer 151 outdoor tennis courts, 185 athletic fields, 18 boulevards over 22 miles, 20 green spaces totaling 420 acres, five golf courses, two lawn bowling facilities, three boat moorages, 18 fishing piers, 38 neighborhood playgrounds, 33 unscheduled playfields, 24 miles of shoreline, and an urban camp. 34 parks have hiking and walking trails.
