Description

Teen Life Counts is a Teen Suicide Prevention Program that has been in existense in New Orleans since 1984. The premise of this program is that teens talk to other teens about their problems so they will know first hand if there friends are suicidal. The Teen Life Counts program educated young people from middle school to upper school. They will understand their own attitudes towared suicide, warning signs that young people show others and how to respond in a suicidal crisis. This program is an educational one not a theraputic program. They have reached over 6000 students in a five parish area. Once the cirriculum is taught the students are given an opportunity to refer their friends or themselves for help. This portion of the program make this very unique because it is important for young people to know that there are adults that truly care and want to help.
