St. John's Bread and Life runs several programs including a soup kitchen, mobile soup kitchen, mom's food pantry, More-Than-a-Meal personal products pantry, HIV/AIDS support group, men's and women's support groups, legal and medical clinics etc.
Mission Statement
St. John's Bread and Life exists to restore shattered hopes and human dignity. The heart of the program is a soup kitchen located in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn's poorest community, that serves breakfast and lunch to needy New Yorkers each day. We also reduce suffering and encourage independence by providing clothing, health and counseling services. We try to make our programs instruments of long range empowerment and community building, as well as immediate service. We strive to heighten awareness of the public's responsibility to address and prevent poverty. This is accomplished in an atmosphere of compassion and respect.
