The Red Cross provides many different ways to volunteer both locally and around the country. You can directly assist people who have experienced a disaster or loss, or you can work behind the scene. It also provides the training and support necessary to feel and be competent in whatever one chooses to do. There is no pressure to donate more time or to do more than one wants to. The staff who assist you are truly dedicated, very friendly and helpful.

I have been a volunteer at the Red Cross for just over two months now and have been very pleased with my experience thus far. The work I have been doing and the lives I have been able to affect has given me a sense of appreciation for what I am able to do. I would recommend to anyone who is looking to make a measureable difference in someone's life to volunteer their time to working with the Red Cross.

The Red Cross is an amazing organization, and being a volunteer is one of the most rewarding experiences I've had. I volunteer for three teams: disaster response, public affairs and service to armed forces. Each of these roles gives me the feeling that I make a difference. It's such a great feeling to be a source of strength for someone in crisis. I started volunteering because I wanted to "give back" to my community, but I was surprised to see how much I received. The Red Cross staff and volunteers are wonderful, compassionate people. Watching the television, you may only hear the bad news about a tragedy. Being a disaster responder, I see how neighbors step up to help. I see that people really do care about each other, and in a world full of negativity, this gives me hope. If you're looking for a way to serve others, I highly recommend the Red Cross. With a variety of opportunities, supported by a multitude of training classes, you'll find it fulfilling and challenging.
