Our volunteer group leaders work with older adults in assisted living, memory care, and at our Adult Day Services and Senior Center. They help older adults engage in a variety of activities to enhance their well-being and quality of life. Here are some types of activities and responsibilities a group leader might do: Recreational Activities: Organize and lead group games such as bingo, card games, or board games. Organize and participate in arts and crafts activities. Plan and lead group exercise or movement classes such as chair yoga or gentle stretching. Social Engagement: Facilitate group discussions or social gatherings to encourage interaction and camaraderie. Organize themed parties, dances, or musical events to celebrate holidays or special occasions. Educational Programs: Provide workshops or lectures on a variety of topics that interest older adults. Coordinate book clubs or reading groups. Provide technology assistance for seniors to stay connected with loved ones or learn new digital skills. Therapeutic Support: Work with memory care residents using therapeutic activities that stimulate memory and cognition. Music and Entertainment: Perform music, sing, or lead music sessions. It's important for volunteer group leaders to be patient, empathetic, and adaptable, as the needs and abilities of older adults can vary widely. Tailoring activities to the interests and capabilities of residents is key to providing a meaningful and fulfilling experience for them. Please reach out today to volunteer by calling 773-508-4232 or emailing volunteers@cje.net.
