Mission Statement

Friends of the Parks (FOTP) has been Chicago's strongest public advocate for the protection, preservation and improvement of the city's lakefront, regional and neighborhood parks. Friends of the Parks' mission is to preserve, protect and improve these parks and to foster appreciation for the parks' many contributions to the quality of urban life. FOTP works to promote increased public/private commitment to our historic system of parks and open spaces.

Description

FOTP completes policy studies on public trust issues including legal analyses, as well as reports on park management and stewardship. We work with community groups and individuals to build a strong park constituency to participate meaningfully in neighborhood park decision-making process. We develop new pilot park programs, such as the successful after-school program for children, which the Park District later adopted in parks throughout the city. We organize and sponsor regular workshops, member forums, park tours and symposia to educate and publicize environmental and park issues.

Last Tuesday, my boss, told me that she would see me on Thursday. So I said okay, see you on Thursday. Then the next day, I get an email from her saying do not come in this week because we have a number of volunteers coming and there won't be anywhere for you to sit. I really enjoyed volunteering there, but I wished I was there for longer than a week.
