Description
Since 1970, The Crisis Center has been providing free telephone counseling, crisis intervention and educational outreach for the Greater Birmingham Alabama Area. The Crisis Center assists individuals with various problems and crises including depression, bi-polar disorder, relationship issues, loneliness, substance abuse, and counselors are specifically trained to assess and intervene when callers report suicidal thoughts or attempts. We also have support groups such as "Survivors of Suicide," for family members or friends who have lost a loved one to suicide.
The Crisis Center also provides outreach to children, teens, the elderly, and sexual assault victims through our additional programs such as the Kids' Help Line, Teen Link, The Senior Talk Line, and Rape Response. The purpose of the Kids' Help Line/Teen Link is to provide all school age children with unconditional positive regard when facing difficult situations and in need of crisis intervention. The Senior Talk Line program serves as both a counseling line and as a referral service for senior citizens in the Greater Birmingham Area. The elderly population are at the highest risk for suicide, due to such issues as geriatric depression and loneliness. The Senior Talk Line lends support and referral information to persons who are feeling suicidal, lonely, bereaved, isolated, medically compromised, displaced, unfulfilled or other conditions which complicate the quality of life for the senior adult.
