Appalachian Trail Conservancy

Volunteers celebrate a day of work on the Appalachian Trail.

ATC works with federal and state agency partners and with 30 volunteer A.T. maintaining clubs to manage the 2,175 mile footpath through the Appalachian Mountains. ATC was founded in 1925 by volunteers that led the way in constructing and marking the footpath. Today, volunteers continue to be the heartbeat of the Trail, maintaining, marking and participating in the management of the Trail and the protected lands surrounding it.

Mission Statement

The Appalachian Trail Conservancy (formerly A.T. Conference) is the only organization solely focused on the protection and management of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail.
