Mission Statement

The primary mission of IAMS is to connect young, dedicated, and aspiring artists with skilled educators to foster and cultivate their artistic talents in an encouraging manner.

Description

The Institute of Art, Music & Science (IAMS) began in 1990 with a single violin lesson and has now grown to include piano, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, oboe, guitar, bass guitar, saxophone, percussion, and voice, as well as visual art. In 2000, IAMS became a non-profit organization 501 (c)(3). With 21 years of experience, IAMS is thriving every second. We are based in the LA County area where we work with local schools and community leaders to offer subsidized art and music lessons (approximately 50% less than the going rate) and provide scholarships to students in need. We have served more than 2,000 students and have provided more than 100 scholarships.

IAMS provides music and art lessons, as well as administer three programs: the IAMS Youth Ensemble, Music-in-Schools, and the scholarship program. The first is our IAMS Youth Ensemble, where we give our students the opportunity to participate in orchestral and performance training. The students in our program also experience community service volunteer opportunities, where they perform in elderly nursing homes, senior care centers, children's hospitals, etc. Our second program is our Music-in-Schools Program, where we partner with local schools in our community and send our instructors off-campus and directly into classrooms. We focus on music appreciation where our instructors teach the fundamentals of music: the history/explanations of various instruments, music concepts (rhythm, melody, note recognition, etc.), performing (signing/listening), and the likes. Our third and most important program is our scholarship program where we administer scholarships to students who come from low/moderate-income families showing promise in the arts. Our lessons and programs are designed to expose the children of our community to the beauty of classical music and to make sure we do everything in our power to keep the arts accessible and affordable.
