Volunteer in Equine Assisted Therapy Classes - No Horse Experience Required!

StableStrides has been providing equine assisted therapy to the community since 1981! We are a premier accredited center through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH, Intl.), ensuring safety and quality services. StableStrides is currently seeking volunteers to assist in our Equine Assisted Therapy Classes offered at the Latigo Equestrian Complex near Black Forest. You do not need to be horse savvy to volunteer at StableStrides! You just need the desire to help an amazing group of people with special needs! All volunteers 16 years and older are welcome. We offer classes Monday - Saturday, so hopefully we can find something that fits your schedule! We ask that volunteers participating in class try and commit to the same class(es) every week for at least 2 months. Equine assisted activities and therapies is a unique approach to achieve health and wellness goals. Physical, Occupational, Speech, and Mental Health Therapists partner with horses to assist their clients in their specific area of need. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AT STABLESTRIDES INCLUDE: SIDE WALKERS: responsible for the safety of riders. You help get horses ready for class and assist your rider with mounting and riding. You guide your rider safely as he/she/them get to know and care for the horse. During the class itself, your job is to ensure the client stays on the horse safely and is following the instructor's directions. HORSE LEADERS: responsible for the horse’s safety and control at all times. You reinforce the rider’s signals to the horse and maintain proper distance from other horses in the class while walking, changing directions, and passing. This role requires horse handling experience. Training opportunities are offered! Mental Health Horse Handler Volunteer

StableStrides has been providing equine therapy to the community since 1981! We are a premier accredited program through the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship (www.pathintl.org) ensuring safety and quality services. StableStrides is currently seeking volunteer horse handlers to assist in our Mental Health Therapy sessions offered at the Norris-Penrose Event Center on Tuesdays - Saturdays between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. Volunteers must be 18 years or older. Volunteers are needed to maintain a safe and supportive environment by safely handling the horse, observing and giving feedback on horse behaviors, and sharing observations with the therapist about how clients and the horses interact. We work with active duty service members, veterans, and civilians. VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS: Solid horse handling skills (training available) Ability to confidently direct clients safely around the horses Excellent communication skills Commitment to at least 2 months of programming 18 years or older BENEFITS OF VOLUNTEERING AT STABLESTRIDES: A chance to change lives through the amazing attributes of the horse Working with the incredible animals that make up the StableStrides herd Reduced fee riding lessons Looks great on resumes and college applications ABOUT EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY: Equine Assisted Therapy (EAT) is a form of experiential psychotherapy that includes horses. Not only is StableStrides the oldest and largest program in El Paso County, we are the only PATH, Intl Premier Accredited Center in the area. We offer Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapies, as well as Adaptive Riding to children and adults with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities. We also offer Mental Health therapies utilizing horses to help those experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD and other mental health issues.
