Mission Statement

We believe that with a mentor each child can have the opportunity to reach his or her fullest potential. We envision confident, responsible children who are excited with life, creating safe, caring, productive families and communities. In order to foster confident, motivated and responsible children, Each One Save One will facilitate new and support existing mentoring organizations by recruiting, screening, training and supporting mentors.

Description

Each One Save One is a mentoring organization that actively recruits volunteers to work one-on-one with children in grades K-12 in the public school system. Each One Save One was founded in 1994 by co-founders Cathy Harris and Sally Ann Roberts. Our mentors are caring a dults that commit to service one hour a week each week during the school year. Our mentors attend a one day training class which consists of sessions on problem solving and conflict resolution, cultural awareness and diversity, personality types, communication, and receive basic training in recognizing abuse and neglect in children. Prior to Hurricane Katrina we had 350 mentors in 110 schools throughout the New Orleans area. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the physical office of Each One Save One but not the spirit of the caring adults across the community willing to make a difference in a young person’s life. We currently have over 50 mentors and we are actively recruiting more each day.
