Mission Statement

The Center for Women, Children and Families is a non-profit social service agency providing a safe, accessible and healing environment for children, while developing the strength and self-sufficiency of women and families through education, support and advocacy.

Our focuses are:

• The prevention of child physical and sexual abuse and neglect; and

• The stabilization of the family unit.

Self-Help Parenting Program

The Nest offers classes and support for parents who want to learn about encouraging and protecting their children. The Self-Help Parenting Program provides families with skills and support to prevent and recover from family violence, abuse and neglect, as well as to promote positive family communication, increase family self-care and build family strengths. It provides short term, crisis oriented, solution-focused individual counseling to address relationship issues, conflict resolution/problem solving, divorce, separation, co-parenting, strengthening families already in recovery from substance abuse and developing life skills.

Domestic Violence Counseling Program

Our Domestic Violence Counseling Program is designed to provide support to families who are dealing with issues of domestic violence--currently or in the past. We counsel men, women and children and offer a 12-week group therapy session, Circle of Healing, for victims or survivors of domestic violence. The Circle of Healing group sessions provide tools to assist participants in healing as well as parenting children who have witnessed domestic violence.

The Domestic Violence Counseling and Self-Help Parenting Program work closely together to ensure families are accessing all the services needed.

Crisis Case Management

The Nest provides emergency assistance for families facing a temporary crisis. Our staff can connect families with the resources they need, like legal aid, food, financial assistance and housing. We help families address the obstacles they face so they can build the confidence and skills they need to begin on a path toward family stability. The staff also provides direct services, such as baby formula, children’s clothing, diapers and toiletries.

Child Care Program

Our Child Care Program serves the needs of a variety of families by providing child care and education from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. five days a week. In addition to serving parents who need child care so they can go to work, appointments, etc., it offers free respite child care. Respite child care supports families in emergencies who do not otherwise have a safe support system for their children. It aims to lessen stress on families and, thus, lessen the incidence of child abuse.

Families who need a safe, affordable place to leave their children will find a nurturing, loving environment that encourages the emotional, mental and physical development of the child. Child care staff members can also refer parents to other services at The Nest that might help them reach their goals.
