To establish a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment and leadership development for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Description

Founded in 1989 by Anthony K. Shriver, Best Buddies is a vibrant, international organization that has grown from one original chapter to almost 1,900 middle school, high school, and college chapters worldwide. Best Buddies programs engage participants in each of the 50 United States, and over 50 countries around the world. Best Buddies’ eight formal programs - Middle Schools, High Schools, Colleges, Citizens, e-Buddies, Jobs, Ambassadors , and Promoters - positively impact nearly 900,000 individuals with and without disabilities worldwide.

This was honestly an amazing experience. Being able to motivate and inspire another individual is an amazing gift. Not only was I able to help but I was also taught a few things. You just never know what to expect when you volunteer.

I was with this organization for many years since my last year of high school. I made a long-term friendship with someone through Best Buddies, and it's one of the best organizations out there to promote awareness for individuals with disabilities.

Best Buddies is a wonderful friendship program that can make a difference in your life and the life of another person! Everyone I have told about Best Buddies has shared with me that they know a person who would benefit from having a new friend. Join the movement...be a friend!

It has been a very rewarding experience working with Best Buddies and being matched to my buddy. We have enjoyed many wonderful times together and learned a tremendous amount from each other.
