Y of Central Maryland Building Futures Mentor Program

Description

Building Futures is a one-to-one mentoring program serving youth ages 6-18 years. Each youth participating in the Building Futures program is matched with an adult mentor, and together they agree to meet two hours a week for a period of one year at their local Y. Adult volunteers and youth who participate in the program will receive a free Y membership for the year.

Mentors provide young people with a consistent adult role model as well as an understanding ear and the opportunity to problem solve. A mentor may serve many roles including that of friend, confidant and/or coach. Youth lacking this type of stable influence are often at risk for making negative choices that may permanently impact the rest of their lives.
