Mission Statement

The mission of the Children's Trust Roanoke Valley is to reduce the incidence and trauma of child maltreatment, to support families through education and to provide trained volunteer advocates for children in court proceedings.

Description

The Children's Trust is a non-profit, United Way agency. We work to prevent and treat child abuse and neglect in the community through parenting programs, community education and advocacy efforts.

I am a CASA for Roanoke City and County and have handled two cases since completing training in spring, 2010. I was able to do this while working a full-time job and managing a family. There are lots of kids in situations with parents who are not equipped to take care of them and really need someone in their corner. A CASA gets to know everyone in the child's life to be able to make a recommendation in the court as to what's in that child's best interests. It's really rewarding to be able to help a child in need through a complex and confusing process.
