At Handmade Especially for You we make and distribute "comfort scarves" for abused women living in shelters. We tie each scarf with a ribbon and include a note signed by the maker. The intention of making these scarves is to provide a gift of comfort to someone who may have never received a gift before and to show that someone cares. In 2009 we made over 6,500 scarves and delivered them to 22 family crisis centers in Southern California. In 2010, we made 10,000 scarves and donated them to all the shelters for abused women in Los Angeles County. But we have barely scratched the surface of the need. In 2011 we plan to expand to more shelters in Southern California, including Orange, San Diego, Riverside, and San Bernardino counties.

Mission Statement
Handmade Especially for You knits/crochets comfort scarves and donates them to abused women who have sought safety from their abusive environment . Our scarves tell these women that we care about them, we think they are valuable, and we think they have a happy future ahead.
Most of the women who receive our scarves have never before received a personal gift, much less a handmade personal gift. They are amazed that someone who doesn't even know them has given them something so valuable and beautiful.
The directors at the shelters tell us that receiving a scarf lifts the woman's usually low self-esteem. The directors use this ah-ha moment to begin counseling and therapy that will change the woman's life. We never expected our scarves would be so powerful, but we are glad they are.
