Mission Statement

To teach Thresholds -- a course in how to make good decisions -- to inmates at the Chester County Prison and Chester County Youth Center for the purpose of empowering inmate-students to learn how to set goals and create realistic plans on how to reach them, as well as to learn the difference between making a decision and reacting. The hope is that this knowledge will positively impact their lives, and in essence, their communities, in the future.

Description

Thresholds teaches decision-making skills to inmates at the Chester County Prison in Pocopson. Courses are taught in three, eight-week cycles -- winter, spring, and fall. Volunteers meet one-on-one with inmates, once per week during the eight-week cycle (about 1-2 hours per meeting at a mutually convenient time for teacher and student). You do not have to have any knowledge of the prison system or teaching skills in order to take part in this great program!! Attendence at a two-day training is required before you can begin the next cycle. Next training March 23 & 24, 2013.

** PLEASE NOTE: Address listed is where donations, and training costs can be mailed. The actual work within the prison is located at the Chester County Prison complex at 501 South Wawaset Rd, Pocopson PA (right outside of West Chester - Chester County)
