Underground Teen Center

The Underground, located in the O'Brien Community Center, is a relaxed space with comfortable furniture, pool tables, a ping pong table, air hockey table, foosball tables, computers with internet access, a 55" screen TV, as well as video game consoles and board games. The center is open Tuesdays & Thursdays 5-9pm, and Fridays 5-11pm.

Between 20-40 teens attend The Underground regularly. A majority of the teens who visit are from Winooski High School and are primarily west-African refugees.

Each night, teens are offered a hot, well balanced dinner and are then free to hang out and use the equipment as they please. In addition to being open three nights a week, the Underground offers off-site activities as well. Our teens especially enjoy playing indoor soccer on Monday nights and will soon begin a 6 week snowboarding program with the Chill Foundation.

Mission Statement

The Underground Teen Center promotes healthy lifestyle choices by exposing teenagers to nutritious foods, encourageing consistent physical activity, modeling appropriate social behaviors, and providing opportunities for academic and overall enrichment.
