Mission Statement
TIP is a team of specially trained citizen volunteers who provide practical and emotional support to survivors of tragedy.
TIP volunteers are dispatched to help victims and/or family members after a traumatic incident has occurred. Such traumas may include suicide, attempted suicide, home fires, non-criminal traumatic incidents, SIDS infant deaths, auto accidents, accidental drowning, death of a loved one due to illness or sudden trauma, and to support children left alone after a family tragedy.
TIP volunteer basic commitment consists of being 'on call' for three 12-hour shifts each month. Shifts are from 7a.m. - 7p.m. and 7p.m. to 7a.m. Additionally, volunteers must attend a 3-hour Continuing Education Meeting each month. Volunteers choose the shifts they cover.
Nationally, TIP has received the prestigious Paul H. Chapman Award for Improvement of Justice; the Innovations in State and Local Government award; and the National Crime Victim Service Award. Locally, TIP of N. Nevada has been awarded a Governor's Points of Light Award for Volunteer Management & The Chamber Reno*Sparks*Northern Nevada Non-Profit of the Year.
