Ampersand Sexual Violence Resource Center works to achieve freedom from sexual violence by supporting individuals and engaging communities.
Description
Ampersand Sexual Violence Resource Center serves the Bluegrass Area Development District in Central Kentucky. Ampersand is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing a 24-hour support hotline, advocacy, medical accompaniment, and free counseling to survivors of sexual assault, their friends and families. We also work with community partners to provide free prevention education on topics such as healthy relationships, bystander intervention, bullying, and much more.

Volunteering at Ampersand has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my academic/professional life! During my time with the organization (one year), I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with sexual assault survivors both over the phone and in-person, work closely with social workers, and law enforcement and medical staff, and understand how a non-profit operates. After having been with the organization for 8 months, I decided to have my internship count for credit for my psychology capstone class at UK (PSY499). I got to develop a seminar about the bystander effect, and help out with HR duties. My supervisor wrote me a stellar recommendation letter that I submitted as part of my graduate school application. Volunteering/interning at Ampersand will be worth your time and will open so many doors for you! Did I mention the flexible hours and that you can work from home and choose your own schedule every month? Wonderful opportunity! Would definitely recommend!
