Hospital of Saint Raphael

A 520 bed acute care, community teaching hospital affiliated with Yale Medical School. We place volunteers in over 90 areas of the healthcare system. In addition to the more traditional volunteer assignments, volunteers also work in several of the Hospital's community-based programs such as its H.O.P.E. (Welfare-to-work), Community Blood Pressure, Lifeline and Project Eldercare.

Mission Statement

The Hospital of Saint Raphael is a community teaching hospital and health care resource sponsored and guided by the values of the Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth and of the Roman Catholic Church. Our mission is to witness, share in, and promote excellence in the healing ministry of Jesus Christ. We are committed to preserving the dignity and well-being of each individual, and to assuring that every person is treated according to the principles of charity and justice. We accept the Gospel challenge that prompted our founders of the sponsoring congregation, Saint Vincent DePaul, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, and Mother Mary Xavier Mehegan by pledging every loving service in our power to reach out to those in need of our services.

I am very keen to learn about medicine and to expand my knowledge in order to learn what it is like to help others in a hospital. I am currently studying pre medicine at my college and I am willing to take an extra step further with the St. Raphael's Volunteering Program in order to see what it is like to help others, and to treat patients in need of care. I will be taking the Medical College Assessment Test within the next few years, and I want to expose myself as much as I can to the hospital, and doctors before taking the test to see how much I like medical field. Becoming a doctor is something that I have dreamt about since I was very young, and I am hoping to make that dream a reality. If I were to volunteer at St. Raphael's Hospital, I would dedicate myself every minute to get every job I am assigned to finished, and have done correctly.
