Our Nutrition Meal Service program is a fantastic way to support Springwell’s mission to decrease isolation and provide important nutritional support to older adults, while also getting involved in your community by serving meals to older adults at dining site locations throughout the towns served by Springwell including Brookline. All shifts are from around 11am-1pm Monday-Friday, though you do not need to commit to every day. Typically, volunteers serve weekly on the same day of the week, or multiple days a week. Friendly Visitor volunteers provide one-on-one companionship via phone, virtually or in person. Help your Natick neighbors! The Home Delivered Meals Program provides older adults with a nutritious lunch delivered to their door up to 5 days per week. It is an essential tool to prevent food insecurity, malnutrition, and social isolation when mobility challenges, illness, or disability make it difficult to grocery shop and prepare food. During the recent COVID pandemic, Springwell went from delivering 250,000 meals to 350,000 annually. Even with the end of pandemic restrictions, we continue to serve the same number of meals in response to the challenges of living on a fixed income in a period of inflation and the loneliness crisis. With the ongoing shifts in the economy and the job market, we have been unable to hire enough full-time drivers to deliver all these meals. Volunteers have generously responded to our recruiting efforts for drivers enabling us to deliver each meal in a timely manner Monday through Friday. We always need more drivers. Please volunteer to join us for a shift or two each week if the following qualifications make this opportunity a good fit for you: Must be 18, have a reliable car, a current driver’s license, and a clean driving record; Must be able to lift 25 pounds; and Must meet the regulatory pre-requisites for the position. Springwell will train volunteers and provide ongoing support to make sure each volunteer has the resources needed to deliver meals to older adults relying on this service. Please contact us!
