Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Horse Protection Society to make the world a better place for horses through education, rescue, and rehabilitation. HPS provides a sanctuary of last resort for starved and abused equine. New volunteers are always welcome. HPS has a monthly schedule of when volunteers have commited to come and help

Description

The Horse Protection Society maintains the first equine sanctuary in North Carolina to provides care for neglected equine. Normally there are at least 30 to 40 horses under our protection. Recovered horses can be placed in quality homes.

This is by far the most rewarding volunteer work I've ever done. I have been a volunteer with HPS for the past year. There is nothing better than seeing the positive results in a starved or abused horse's life. From filling water tubs to mixing individual feed to grooming to spending quality time with each horse. This is hard but extremely rewarding work and has become the highlight of each week.
