Mission Statement

To create stable, vibrant and healthy communities by developing, financing and operating affordable, programenriched housing for families, seniors and people with special needs who lack the economic resources to access quality, safe housing opportunities.

Description

In the early 1980s, a Sister of Mercy working as an attorney recognized that a lack of stable housing was a common problem among her clients and had a pervasive impact, as children struggled in school and parents were unable to find stable employment. She organized her religious community and founded Mercy Housing in 1981. The program answered a desperate need and expanded to regional offices now serving more than 131,000 people on any given day and employing more than 1,300 people nationwide.

Through affordable housing and supportive programs we help people improve their economic status, transform neighborhoods, and stabilize lives. We envison a more humane world where poverty is alleviated, communities are healthy and all people can develop their full potential.

Today Mercy Housing is active in 43 states through lending, property management and consulting. Geographic Business Centers (GBCs) meet local needs in core markets in California, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois and Washington State.
